If We Were Having Coffee….

2015-01-05 20.29.00

If we were having coffee, I would ask you how your week was. I hope that it went well. My week was rather blah and unproductive. I’m not actually sure which came first. Did I start to feel low and that caused me to be unproductive? Or, was I unproductive and that caused me to feel low? Regardless, both states are here. I’m glad the coming week is March break. Not only will the university be shut down, but my supervisor will be away for a week. This will give me time to get my mood under control before it dips further (I hope). Hubby has the same March break. It will be nice to spend some time together.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you the new Ph.D. student is no more. He officially left the program this week. I don’t feel so bad for him anymore. Leaving is the right thing for him and I heard through the grapevine that it wont affect his current job back home. He just wont get the higher position he was getting the Ph.D. for.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I haven’t had time to do any more art journaling or drawing. I set up a tumblr account for some reason. I think that is where all my free time went this week. Some of the themes are a little complicated. I still haven’t figured out how to get WordPress to publish over there. It might work this time, I think there was a glitch in the theme I was using. Social media eats up so much time if you aren’t paying attention.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you if you copyright your photos or artwork? The art journal people in the Facebook groups I am in usually type some sort of signature over their work. I haven’t done anything like that with my art journal stuff or with the doodles I display on my blog. Should I? What do you think?

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I’ve been having nightmares every night. Not scary ones, more anxiety provoking. They cause me to wake up a lot during the night and leave me exhausted in the morning. What do you do to get rid of nightmares?

If we were having coffee, I would probably apologize for cutting it short this week. I’m just not feeling myself. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Here is a photo of my little Ewok to make you smile as you start the rest of your weekend.

In the US I think technically if you create something it is automatically your property, but enforcing it if someone steals it is difficult. If they use it to make money I think you can go after them if you can prove you created it before they started making money. i assume Canada has similar laws. Your art is so personal I can’t see anyone stealing it, but they might. I don’t plan on copyrighting my photos or art, but I am starting to copyright my music.

“Hubby has the same March break. It will be nice to spend some time together.” You once said he might be taking a job up north. Is he there now and returning for the week?

Glad you feel better about the other doctorate student but sorry your feeling down. I hope you can re-energize this week.

I’m leaning towards not doing the copyright thing. I tried it on a few and I don’t think it looks very nice. Hubby has his normal teaching job here until June. The school he is with now wont have a position for him next year (population decrease), so unless we can find something else for him come September, up north we go!

Sorry to hear your not feeling yourself. I hope your march break time helps.
    Thanks for the coffee.
I’m afraid I can’t offer any advice on copyrighting your drawings, I can’t draw to save my life.

Thank you. I think having time to do some art will help.
You know, anything can be art today. There is a huge book out about the art of stick people! I’m loving that there are no rules anymore 🙂
      Happy weekend!

Ah well if anything can be art, then maybe I am an artist! My usual media of choice- junk. Maybe I need to snap a few pictures of the useful gadgets I have built out of what others set to the curb.
Hmmm… You have given me food for thought. thanks!

I’m sorry you’ve been feeling that blah, unproductive feeling. I’ve had the up-and-down mood swings a bit this week, and some of that involves the unproductive blahs, so I know what you mean.

I have a creative commons license on my blog, but I don’t mark pictures individually for it. If I had a larger blog and/or a blog on a different platform I might reconsider, but right now I just need, I think, something that reminds people that the stuff on my blog is created by a contributor or by me, and the CC license helps.

Good advice, maybe I’ll do that. I really don’t like marking up my doodles. Thanks!

I do use big watermarks for the photography business I run, but that’s a more serious endeavor. I’d suggest either creating a watermark you love so that you don’t mind using it or using something like a CC license on the blog.

I hope you’ll feel better by next week. Hugs!

About the copyright thing, I was once asking that same question you posted and an artist friend told me to put a signature to all my artwork whether in my art journal. planner, in a canvas or an ATC. She told me that it is one way to protect yourself. There are many people out there who copy one’s work and present them as their own original work. Worst case as what happened to my friend, her original work was copied and subsequently sold by the copier.
It is so sad to think that people could be as rude as that but it happens and putting a copyright to your every work helps protect you. I use picasa to put in my signature but it is still not yet sufficient to protect me. I think no one can really protect himself/herself when using the internet. (sigh).

I’ve kind of got the blahs today, too. Not sure if I am just tired or just blahsy. It’s too bad, too because it’s a nice day out. It’s sunny and in the mid 50’s with a slight breeze. But I’m too much in a blah/tired place that I won’t go out in it. Too much effort. Today I want to finish the novel I am reading, update my books read page for this year as I’ve not put in the last five or so books I’ve read. I also want to carve some eraser rubber stamps. At least one. I haven’t done it in years and I want to just start dabbling in it again. The one I want to do today will be a Lego brick for my grandson who loves anything and everything Lego!

I too am sorry to hear you’ve had a tough week. I hope the March break helps. It’s tough when our anxieties bring out the dreams. It happens to me too. They are usually nightmares, but a therapist taught me a really useful trick, especially for the ones that are reoccurring. Basically, just before you go to sleep, think about the things which are making you anxious, or a dream which haunts you most often and change it in your head. Play out a situation where things change, and as you go to sleep the theory is the thoughts no longer plague you – or if they do the dream is a nice one and your body continues to rest (instead of waking in a cold sweat, or being wide awake for hours when the sleep is interrupted). I thought I’d share that with you just in case it helps 🙂
