Trying NaBloPoMo

NaBloPoMo_2015

Why not right? So many of you are doing NaNoWriMo, I’m feeling like I am missing out. I can’t handle a novel at this point in time. I’ve got a grant deadline in early December, so that is where all my writing should be going. I don’t think I could write a novel anyway. Blog posts are more my speed and what better way to get back into the habit of writing, right?

Actually, I should have been a little less impulsive in signing up yesterday. Considering this is the 4th post since I went MIA 7 months ago, this may be too big a commitment. I want to be writing again, but I am still having trouble managing depression. I was really looking forward to doing A-Z last April. I even prepared ahead of time! It didn’t matter though. Depression took over and it was a spectacular flop. At least it was spectacular right?! Glass half full. 🙂

Since this whole thing started yesterday, Halloween (I must have been possessed), I have no idea what I am doing. I did sign up at BlogHer, so I will probably be using the prompts over there most of the time. Outside of that, I’ll babble about depression, grad school and life in general. Sometimes the scientist in me just has to share something cool I learned. That has been rare in the last while since I am mad at my Ph.D. and everything related to it. Maybe I’ll try to doodle again, no promises though!

NaBloPoMo is really hard to write without typos. Does anybody say that out loud? I keep messing it up when I try to say it.

I will leave you with Ewok’s discovery of the Lego Express.

Happy NaBloPoMo everybody!

Share Your World 2015 – Week 6

I love Cee’s Share Your World. It’s always something that I can handle. I am sick, again. Whatever stomach bug I had a week or so ago has reared its ugly head again. I’ve fallen further behind in everything before I got a chance to catch up. Share Your World may not be a huge check mark on my To-Do List, but it’s still a check mark which is always a positive. It’s a pleasant way to jump start getting my brain going again.

Here is week 6!

What was the last time you went to a new place?

I went to several new places this past weekend. I spent the weekend in Toronto. T.O. isn’t new since I grew up there, but I went to several different places that I had never been to while I lived there. The first was Curry’s Art Store. I picked up some fun art supplies there. I went to The Brides Project where my sister picked out her wedding dress. They sell dresses donated from other brides and salons to support cancer research and various cancer-related programs. I tried some new restaurants; Canyon Creek and Earl’s. I also visited my cousins in their new house.

If you were or are a writer do you prefer writing short stories, poems or novels, other?  And what type of genre would you prefer?

When I was younger and wanted to be a writer, I was thinking children’s literature, short stories I guess. I wanted to be able to write fun stories and illustrate them myself. Now, having not exercised my imagination muscles in many years, I would probably prefer nonfiction. I’d write about my own experiences with depression as I do here, or I’d write research articles for magazines or newspapers.

Out of your five senses (touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing) which is your favorite?

I can’t decide between sight and touch. I rely on sight for so much; getting from place to place, reading, communicating, my doodles. Touch is important too. I don’t think I could survive without hugs!

If 100 people your age were chosen at random, how many do you think you’d find leading a more satisfying life than yours?

I’d probably find 95% leading a more satisfying life than mine. It’s all about perception though, isn’t it? How much of these lives would I actually see? What you see and what is the actual truth are usually very different. Would I get to know how these people really feel about their lives? What I may think is a satisfying life may not be to the person living it. I feel like most people my age are way ahead of me. They have careers, they have kids, their lives have started. I’m still trying to figure it all out.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last Week: I am grateful that I got to go to T.O. I got to stay with my aunt, I got to spend time with the cousins I don’t get to see very often, I visited with my friends from elementary school and I picked out my sister’s wedding dress! Despite coming home with another bout of stomach flu, it was a great little trip. I am also grateful for awesome bloggy friends! I sent out some Happy Mail for a few people in my art journal groups last week. They received their packages this week and I got some smiles and nice messages in return. I also got some valentines from another friend which made my day! Thank you NotAPunkRocker!! The popsicle is actually a scratch and sniff!! I didn’t think they made those anymore. It smells like fruit punch. Ewok really likes it.

This Week: I am looking forward to starting to feel better and getting caught up on things.
